As Lent is time for greater love, listen to Jesus’ thirst… ‘Repent and believe’ Jesus tells us. What are we to repent? Our in-difference, our hardness of heart. What are we to believe? Jesus thirsts even now, in your heart and in the poor—He knows your weakness. He wants only the chance to love you.” -Saint Teresa of Calcutta
Lent is traditionally a penitential time during the church liturgical year where we are invited to draw more near God through prayer, fasting, and alms giving.
Shrove Tuesday February 21… 5:30 Last year’s palms are burned to provide ashes for the Ash Wednesday services. The Knights of Columbus & Social Committee will provide a pancake feast following the burning of palms.
Ash Wednesday February 22… Distribution of ashes @ 12:15p.m. & 7:00p.m.
Stations of the Cross will be held Fridays during Lent at 5:30. Adoration times, daily Mass schedules, and opportunities to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be detailed in the bulletin. (Prayer)
Soup Suppers will be held each Friday directly following the Stations of the Cross. To honor the spirit of fasting, a light meal of a simple, meatless soup, salad, and bread will be provided by parishioners each week. No desserts will be served. Please sign up in the vestibule to attend. (Fasting)
Rice Bowl is the official Lenten program of Catholic Relief Services, the overseas re-lief and development agency of the United States Catholic Bishops. In addition to helping people overseas, a portion of the proceeds remain local to help our friends & neighbors in Orange, VA. Our parish is an active participant in CRS Rice Bowl. Col-lection “rice bowls” are available in the vestibule. (Alms giving)
